Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (30 oz) package Ore-Ida Shredded Hash Browns
  • 1 pound Jimmy Dean Premium Pork Sausage
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 package McCormick Sausage Flavor Gravy Mix
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 can (16.3 oz) Pillsbury Grands! Buttermilk Biscuits

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare hashbrowns: Evenly spread the frozen shredded hashbrowns over the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the base layer.
  3. Cook sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the Jimmy Dean Premium Pork Sausage, breaking it into small pieces as it cooks. Once cooked through and browned, drain off any excess grease.
  4. Add sausage: Spread the cooked sausage evenly over the layer of hashbrowns in the baking dish.
  5. Make gravy: In a bowl, whisk the McCormick Sausage Flavor Gravy Mix into the cold milk until smooth and free of lumps. Pour this gravy evenly over the sausage and hashbrown layers.
  6. Layer cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the gravy layer to cover the casserole.
  7. Add biscuits: Cut each biscuit into quarters and scatter these biscuit pieces evenly across the top of the casserole.
  8. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and fully cooked through.
  9. Rest and serve: Remove the casserole from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set.

Notes

  • Can be assembled ahead of time up to the biscuit layer and refrigerated overnight for convenience.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator and can be reheated thoroughly before serving.
  • For a spicy twist, substitute regular sausage with hot sausage.
  • Use turkey sausage as a lighter, leaner protein option.
  • Add sautéed onions and bell peppers to the hashbrown layer for extra flavor and texture.
  • Mix pepper jack cheese with cheddar for a different cheesy flavor profile.
