Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 28 ounce bag shoestring French fries
  • 10.5 ounce can cream of mushroom soup
  • 10.5 ounce can cheddar cheese soup
  • 1/2 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Burger Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon pickle juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon dehydrated onions
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook French Fries: Preheat the air fryer and cook the shoestring French fries according to the package instructions until crispy. Set aside once done.
  2. Preheat Oven: While the fries cook, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177°C) to prepare for baking the casserole.
  3. Brown Beef and Onions: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and diced yellow onion. Cook until the beef is fully browned and onions are softened, about 7-10 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 to 45 seconds until fragrant. Season the mixture with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper to taste. Drain off any excess fat.
  4. Mix in Soups: Stir the cream of mushroom soup and cheddar cheese soup into the cooked beef mixture until everything is evenly combined and creamy.
  5. Assemble Casserole: Transfer the beef and soup mixture into a 7×11 inch casserole dish, spreading it out evenly. Layer the cooked, crispy French fries on top of the beef mixture, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the fries.
  6. Bake: Place the casserole dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheddar cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  7. Make Burger Sauce: While the casserole bakes, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle juice, dehydrated onions, and black pepper in a small bowl until smooth and well combined.
  8. Serve: Once baked, remove the casserole from the oven. Drizzle the prepared burger sauce evenly over the top just before serving to add a tangy, creamy finishing touch.

Notes

  • For extra crispy fries, cook them in the air fryer right before assembling the casserole.
  • You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or cream of chicken if preferred.
  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the beef mixture or burger sauce.
  • This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
  • Use low-fat mayonnaise in the burger sauce to reduce calories if desired.
