A delicious and comforting Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwich combining crispy garlic buttered bread, melted mozzarella, pepperoni, and rich pizza sauce for a fun twist on classic grilled cheese.

Ingredients

Garlic Butter

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Sandwich Assembly

  • 8 thick slices sturdy bread such as sourdough or Italian
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 24 thin slices pepperoni

Instructions

  1. Prepare Garlic Butter: Combine softened unsalted butter, grated parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt in a small mixing bowl until evenly blended.
  2. Assemble Sandwiches: Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce or marinara sauce on 4 slices of bread. Evenly top each with shredded mozzarella cheese and 6 slices of pepperoni. Place the remaining bread slices on top to form sandwiches.
  3. Butter the Sandwiches: Generously spread the prepared garlic butter over the outer sides of each assembled sandwich.
  4. Grill the Sandwiches: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Grill the sandwiches for 4 minutes per side until the bread is golden and crisp and the cheese is melted.
  5. Serve: Slice grilled sandwiches in half and serve immediately with extra warm marinara sauce for dipping, if desired.

Notes

  • Select sturdy bread such as sourdough or Italian to provide a crisp, non-soggy structure.
  • For a dairy-free version, replace mozzarella cheese with a suitable dairy-free alternative.
  • Enhance flavor with optional toppings like mushrooms, olives, or bell peppers.
  • Add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or sliced jalapeños for a spicy kick.
